Arrival – Departure Checklist
Electricity
Strictly no high-draw appliances (e.g. electric heaters or kettles).
- Locate your main switch/fuse board.
- Push main trips into the “on” position (usually up).
- Report any electrical faults to park staff immediately.
Water
- Locate and turn on the external water stopcock.
- Check taps, toilets, and showers are working correctly with no leaks.
Gas
Please refer to the Gas Regulator Operation document for set-up procedures.
Each caravan may have a different boiler make/model — operating instructions vary.
If you are unsure, or using your caravan for the first time this season, contact the office for a free boiler demonstration.
- Once gas is live, light the hob to flush stale gas through.
- Once hob rings burn normally, your system is ready for hot water/heating.
- Check gas weekly for any empty bottles. Request a new bottle as soon as you have one.
- Regularly check carbon monoxide detectors and fire alarms. You should have two of each — one in the lounge and one in the hallway.
- Never tamper with the system or pipework — contact staff if in doubt.
Rubbish & Recycling
- Use the bins at the park entrance.
- Follow instructions printed on each bin.
- Flatten large cardboard and place neatly to the side.
- Remove plastic bottle caps to maximise recycling space.
- Do not leave rubbish outside overnight.
Before You Leave
- Isolate the gas.
- Switch off the electricity at the main fuseboard (the nightly charge will apply for this service being left on).
- Lock all windows and doors securely.
- Turn off the external water stopcock.
- Store or secure outdoor furniture from the wind.
- Open fridge doors (this stops mould growing by letting the fridge air).
Safety & Emergencies
- Keep a fire extinguisher and fire blanket in plain view.
- Keep a small, well-stocked first aid kit in your caravan.
End of Year Shut Down
The steps below will help keep your van dryer during our closed period. Because the vans are closed up, a damp environment can occur. The steps below will help ease this and keep soft furnishings dry and clean.
- Remove all bedding and store in tightly closed bin bags, vacuum bags or take home to dry store.
- Pull curtains away from the windows (usually can be tied to each other) or remove completely and seal with your bedding.
- Pull sofa cushions and mattresses away from the wall (they need to be around half and arm’s length off).
- Open the fridge/freezer and place a tea towel over the door to stop it from closing fully.
- Request a drain down from the park
- Follow standard shutdown process as listed above
